LIVING LIGHT
Living Light
Welcome! You have found the site of the CreationKeepers team (Christ Church's Eco Church Committee), which shares ideas and experiences about how we can all lighten our environmental footprint. We do this because we see our planet and its resources at a breaking point and believe in the power of personal examples. Most weeks, we will reflect on some aspect of living, working, shopping, consuming, reading, learning, etc. These are all local experiences and can easily be adopted by others in our community. Our authors (Rosie and Monika) look forward to any comments or ideas that you may also have and want to share. Send us your ideas at This email address is being protected from spambots. Blog #34: Living Light in Summertime

September 2, 2021
Christ Church Vienna community members
This is the last of our "summer haikus" - composed by parishioners and readers during July and August - instead of the regular Living Light blogs that you normally find in this place. Throughout these weeks, many moments of joy or reflection in caring for creation have been shared, described as thoughts or observations, respectively in three lines, the first one with five syllables, the second one with seven syllables, the third with five syllables again. Enjoy this last one for now!

Cloudy, Windy, Wet /
Yet, looking on the bright side /
Beautiful Rainbows.
(MK)

On my way back from a long walk, I stopped on the bridge to have a bit of rest and watch a ship loaded with people enjoying masks-free times with some drinks in their hands and soft music in the background. The young boy and his mother walking behind me had slowed down. Suddenly I heard the mother called the boy “Harry, hurry up so we can reach home before Ben arrives”. Harry shouted “No, mama look”. I turned and saw the boy pointing towards the sky – it was the Rainbow. Oh, what a beautiful thing to look at.

Summer is ending/
Last visits to Museums/
Checking out what's Green.
(MWF)

In the coming weeks, a number of exhibitions here in Vienna are concluding that bring interesting ideas and perspectives to the challenges of climate change and stopping environmental degradation, or that simply celebrate nature. These exhibitions include Summer Breeze: A special program of events in the Museum of Art History (until the end of August),  This includes Best Before: When Food Becomes Waste at the Natural History Museum (closing on September 5) Climate Care: Imagining a Different Planet at the MAK (closing on October 3) and Fragile Creation at the Dommuseum (closing on October 3/Living Light discussed this exhibit already in Blog #11).

Picture: The exhibition Best Before at the Natural History Museum is worth a visit - hurry, it closes on September 5.

Making gazpacho/
Kaleidoscope of colour/
Nature’s providence.

(RS)

Gazpacho (in Spanish) or Gaspacho (in Portugese) is a cold soup - great for the hot days in August.  It's made of blended raw vegetables, mostly tomatoes, but also, depending on your taste, cucumber, bell peppers, and other delights.  For seasoning add salt, pepper, some garlic and as per your taste spices. The internet is full of great recipes.  Having a Gazpacho, this time of the year, is not only refreshing and cool but also a great way of in-season dining, something that lightens our environmental footprint.
